Quote of the Moment

This is what the past is for! Every experience God gives us, every person He puts in our lives is the perfect preparation for the future that only He can see." Corrie ten Boom, The Hiding Place

Happy Thanksgiving!

Today was beautiful. The weather was perfect and we had a wonderful day together as a family. We went to The Columbian for our Thanksgiving dinner and it was delicious! We are truly blessed and it was great take time to talk about all that has happend and expressing thanks for all of the wonderful blessings we have received this year!

After dinner (which was really lunch) we came home and took a nice little Thanksgiving nap! I think everyone should have a nap on Thanksgiving. After the refreshing snooze we decorated for Christmas (because our apartment is small and we have entirely too much stuff in it, decorating for Christmas means that we brought out Winston the Elf and Christmas Eeyore and we call our little palm tree our Christmas tree) and watched The Muppets Christmas Carol.

We hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Surgery

Today we had an appointment with the surgeon to see how Samuel is doing. The surgeon said because of how things look at this point Samuel needs to have a surgery to correct some of the way that the opening is developing. He doesn't think it should be too bad - just hoping for it to be an out-patient procedure, maybe less than 30 minutes. Anyway, it is scheduled to happen on December 3rd! Honestly, I think the worst part of this surgery is going to be the preparing for it. We will have to stop feeding Samuel food and formula, and give him only clear liquids and then 4 hours before the surgery he can't have anything. So please keep your fingers crossed that we can be scheduled early in the morning!

Blast Off

Our family was a bit spontaneous last night and at the last moment we decided to head out to Kennedy Space Center to watch the night launch of the shuttle Endeavor. We left right after I got home from work and landed ourselves in crazy traffic. A trip that typically would take just under an hour took just over 2 hours! But my was it worth it!!!

This picture is right after ignition - before that the it was pitch black with the exception of the moon. We were about 15 miles away from the launch pad, but even from that distance we could hear it...sorry for not having video, but this will give you great opportunity to practice making your own shuttle launching sounds. Perhaps you should also have pound your chest so that you can get the full effect!

The top ball is the moon, and the bright ball by the tree is the shuttle.

Now the shuttle has passed the moon and so the top bright spot is the shuttle.
Honestly, while I like pictures, I must say that they just don't do the experience justice. It was an awesome sight! This was the last scheduled night launch for NASA and I am so glad we were able to go see it!

Halloween and Our Civic Duty

I have this thing about trying to celebrate all of the holidays because they are all Samuel's firsts. My mom was always so good at making each holiday so fun and special. I mean, I remember even making decorations for Presidents Day! I don't know if I can keep up with my own expectations, but for Halloween we tried....
Pictures of Samuel dressed as Samuelstein have already been posted and that is the outfit he wore to daycare yesterday.
For the ward trunk or treat Samuel wore the cow costume. I must say that he was absolutely adorable in both. He's just so cute that I think he could make the silliest outfit adorable. Of course, I am a bit biased!

Just for fun we also dressed Samuel as a pumpkin....He is my favorite little pumpkin!
Now, as I am sure everyone is aware, this year is an election year. I have always enjoyed politics and being involved but the last few years I have been rather disenchanted with everything. However, we cannot allow ourselves to feel this way! We need to vote so that important issues such as the family can be protected and preserved. So, here is a picture of Samuel with David going to cast his ballot!

Now, Samuel isn't your Uncle Sam, but he still wants you to vote!
